We believe that cultural and knowledge exchange is a path toward a more equal and collaborative society. We work in several cities across Brazil — especially smaller, safer towns with stunning landscapes — where local communities benefit from specialized knowledge brought by students and researchers from universities around the world.
In return, students enrich their own learning and build a unique set of experiences deeply connected to the realities of Brazil — experiences they simply wouldn’t find in their home country. They can take part in internships, contribute directly to the local community, and further develop their academic and cultural knowledge.
We currently operate in cities such as Itacaré (Bahia), Ilhabela (São Paulo), Paraty (Rio de Janeiro), among others.

Throughout your experience, you’ll have Portuguese lessons before and after arriving in Brazil to make communication with locals easier. Before your trip, classes happen online; once you’re here, they can be in person or online, depending on your routine.
Beyond essential vocabulary, lessons introduce you to Brazilian culture, customs, and daily life so you can fully live the experience.
Lessons at Parrot are personalized and adapted to your goals. We assess your language background, interests, and motivation, and use targeted activities instead of traditional textbooks, making learning dynamic and meaningful.
And if you don’t want to join the cultural exchange program and prefer PORTUGUESE CLASSES ONLY, no problem — you can take regular lessons with our teachers anytime. Just click on the button below:

Learning a language is about much more than memorizing rules or translating words. In countries like Brazil — where language is a rich cultural mosaic — only real-life experience reveals the depth of everyday vocabulary.
The history of Brazilian Portuguese is shaped by strong Indigenous, African, and European influences, all of which are still alive in the way people speak today.
Words like abacaxi, açaí, tatu, and jacaré come from Indigenous languages. Expressions such as cafuné, dengo, and moleque have roots in African languages. From European Portuguese, we inherited core grammatical structures — but in Brazil, many words developed new meanings shaped by local culture.
But don’t think knowing European Portuguese will be enough — most likely we won’t understand! kkkkk (Brazilian way of laughing online)
But you only truly understand all this when you live the language: hearing a conversation on the subway, joining a street party, or figuring out what someone means when they say “cair a ficha” (when something finally sinks in), “não vale a pena” (it’s not worth it), “pagar mico” (to embarrass yourself), or “dar um jeitinho” (to find a clever workaround).
These phrases don’t show up in textbooks — they live in everyday life. That’s why it’s experience, not just study, that brings a language to life.

Group classes are offered at an accessible price (R$200/month - $40 - for 8 classes!) while still maintaining personalization and individual attention. You’ll receive a personalized study plan and an individual level assessment at the end of the course. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and have fun while learning (classe are online, but in-person meetings in Rio always occur!).
All benefits, no downsides! 🦜✨
Choose your group, send us a message, and secure your spot! Classes start on 02/02. 🦜✨

Private classes offer fully personalized attention, with 1-hour one-on-one lessons where the teacher adapts everything to your interests, goals, and learning challenges. Each class is designed specifically for you, ensuring focused progress and real results.
Lessons can be online or in person if you’re in Rio de Janeiro, giving you flexibility without losing quality. 🦜✨

I lived in Norway for part of my life, where adapting to a completely different culture showed me how deeply language and identity are connected. Outside Brazil, people rarely know the real Brazil, and I often struggled to explain our culture, our words, and our way of being.
When I returned, I created Parrot to unite language learning with authentic cultural exchange — far beyond samba, football, and carnival. Here, you learn Portuguese while experiencing the Brazil that truly exists, and you can also share your own academic knowledge and contribute to the community where you live.
As a Portuguese teacher and the coordinator of these cultural exchanges, I help guide this two-way journey of learning and connection.
Come to discover BraSil!

Hi, I’m Nick.
After spending twenty years in the United States, I decided to follow my dreams of living abroad in Brazil enjoying everything the country has to offer. On my first visit to Brazil I was enchanted by the depth of culture in the country. Brazil has something for everyone: Samba, cowboys, performing arts, soccer, Formula 1, and beaches, of course!
At times the similarities between these two countries made me feel at home, reminding me that we all share a human experience. Other times, Brasil’s unique perspective on life has changed my world view completely.
I have traveled extensively through Brasil by motorcycle visiting almost 20 states, and I can tell you this country has no shortages of surprises. Come visit and see for yourself!

We started as a language school — but today, we’re so much more. Founded by a self-taught polyglot passionate about culture and human connection, our mission has grown into something bigger: creating meaningful cultural exchange experiences that let you live Brazil from the inside out.
Instead of limiting learning to classrooms, we combine hands-on internships, community engagement, and real-life immersion. Students contribute to local projects, work with professionals in their field, and experience everyday life with families and communities.
Here, you don’t just study Portuguese — you use it while doing fieldwork, supporting local schools, joining community events, exploring new places, and connecting with people who call Brazil home.
´Our audience includes international students, young professionals, volunteers, and anyone eager to experience Brazil through meaningful cultural immersion rather than traditional tourism.:
